Abstract

This reseach was aimed to examine the relation between employee's perceptions on leaders' negative expresssed emotion and work satisfaction. The hypothesis was the more negative employee's perception on leader's expresssed emotion, the lower work satisfaction would be and vice versa. The respondents in this reseach were government officials in Yogyakarta. Data collected using questionaires then analyzed by Spearman Rho technique. The results support the reseach hypothesis which the more positive employee's perception on leader's expresssed emotion, the higher employee's work satisfaction and vice versa (R = -0,227 p = 0,039).Keywords: perception on negative expressed emotion of leader, Job satisfaction

Abstract

The purpose of this reseach was to examine the relationship between couple flexibility and level of marital satisfaction. The respondents were couples with children of their own and they have steady job. Data collected using Couple Flexibility Scale (Olson dan DeFrain, 2003) and Marital Satisfaction Scale. Couple Flexibility has 6 aspect, those were leadership, dicipline, negotiation, role and responsibility, rules and changes whereas Marital Satisfaction has 14 aspects: spouse personality, equality in roles dan tasks, communication, conflict resolution, financial arrangement, spare time activities, sexual relationship, relationship with children, relatives and friends, religious orientation, ambition, love and passion. Data analyzed using Spearman rho technique show that the fleksibility of couple related to their level of marital satisfaction. The contributions (highest to lowest) of each aspect of flexibility to marital satisfaction's level were: disipline (r=0,700), roles and responsibility (r=0,694), leadership (r=0,676), negotiation (r=0,676), changes (r=0,584) and rules (r=0,491). Moreover, the result could also predict the occurance of one aspect in each variable when other aspect in other variable known. Keyword s: couple flexibility, marital satisfacton

Abstract

This research was aimed to explore the behavior changes, especially the forgiving behavior in children with conduct disorder. It was assumed that forgiving behavior played as predisposition in reducing destructive behavior. A training module was created and implemented to facilitate the occurrence of behavioral changes. Data was collected using Triangulation method and then analyzed with successive approximation (Neuman, 2000). There are significant changes in most of the respondents in understanding and re-experiencing the targeted behavior even though the mode of changes was vary for each subject. Forgiving behavior in children with conduct disorderwould emerge after expressing the same destructive behavior that other did to the respondent and with full support from peers.Keywords: Children with conduct disorder, forgiving behavior

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to examine the relations between parent's communication quality and level of loneliness in their adolescence's children. The hypothesis was the higher the quality of parent's communication with their teen children, the less lonely they would be. The respondents were high School students with 14-20 years of age from single parents' family. Data collections were using Loneliness Scales (Weiss1994; Mustikasari, 2002) and Communication Quality Scale (Laswell & Laswell, 1987; Suwantoro, 1997). Data analyzes using statistical method with Product Moment Technique from Pearson. The parent's communication quality was found to be negatively correlated to teen's level of loneliness. The higher the quality of communication between parents with their teens children, the less lonely they would become (r =-0,712; p = 0,000). The quality of communication itself contributed 50,7% to the respondents' level of loneliness while 49,3% of other factors still unidentified and need further investigation.Keywords: quality of communication, loneliness, single parent.

Abstract

The main purposes of this study were to identify resiliency level within high-risk adolescence and to examine the influence of protective factors (social skills, problem solving skills, autonomy, internal locus of control, sense of purpose, participation in group activities, supportive environment and community aspiration) for resiliece level within respondents. Respondents were selected with purpossive sampling technique and 38 “high-risk” adolescence, 44.74% boys and 55.26% girls were then participating in this reseach and none of them were ever associated nor involved in criminal conduct. Data then collected using questionaires and also interview for selected respondents, as additional method. The results demonstrated the high level of resilience within respondents and identified 3 contributing factors toward adolescence resiliency level : Social skills ( = .880); Sense of purpose ( = .442); Community aspiration ( = .511).Keywords : resilience, high-risk adolescence

Abstract

This reseach was aimed to examine the relation between gratititude and the meaning of life with proposed hypothesis that the more gratify indviduals, the more meaningful the life would be. Respondents were 110 college students from private university in Yogyakarta. 2 scales utilized tocollect datawereGratitude Scale and Life Regard Index (Battista and Almond,1973). Data then analyzed using product moment statistical method from Pearson.The result show that gratitude was positively correlated with the meaning of life. The higher respondents' level of gratitude the more meaningful the life they experienced so far and vice versa (r = 0,490; p= 0,05).Keywords: Kebermaknaan hidup, kebersyukuran.

Abstract

This article was aimed to identify the “Mawas Diri Method in Suryometaraman” as alternative psychoterapy approach to reduce outraged behavior (Ngamuk) in Javanese community. In Javanese culture, Ngamuk perceived as a non-specific behavior which characterized with hostile, threatening and dangerous for others. Using content analysis, this reseach then identified that Ngamuk as a common behavior-self-control problem in Javanese people inherrited within as well as influenced by Javanese Culture. The basic asumpsions for this approach was: when the abnormalities come out from a cultural character, then the best way to reduce the occurance of the symptoms was the approach inherrited within the culture itself. The method proposed was Mawas Diri which has 4 steps in its approach: (1) Re-evaluating the “like-dislike” responses (2) Understanding oneself and empathizing the feeling of others (3) Taking actions with “here and now” perspectives (4) Generating the sense of adequateness in responding to life demand. The therapists willing to use this cultural approach to treat Javanese clients with outraged problems, need to take extra precautions regarding to their cultural value, identity and background as Javanese people due to excessive acculturation in Javenese Community.Keywords: ngamuk, javanese culture, mawas diri, suryomentaraman

Abstract

Mental health and physical health are fundamentally linked. People living with a physical illness are at greater possibility of experiencing a broad variety of psychological problems. This study aimed to study about Odapus' (person with Lupus) emotion regulation. There are two types of emotion regulations: cognitive reappraisal and expression suppression. Lupus is a chronic disease with multi-systemic disorder of autoimmune system which unknowable causes. The subjects were selected by a purposive sample technique and the data were collected by a semi-structured interview with open ended questions. The results revealed that subjects expressed selection situation, situation modification, intentional deployment, cognitive change, and response modulation. Transcendental relationship to God and family support as other emotion regulation forms were also revealed. Life experiences before, during, and after the diagnosis were related and resulted perspective and attituted toward Odapus. The result also suggests that social supports including physical, emotional, and instrumental supports, then, are necessary to support the efforts to achieve higher level of well being.Keywords: Emotion Regulations, Cognitive Reappraisal And Expression Suppression People With Lupus.
